Target + Facebook = $ for The Salvation Army!

February 3, 2010 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

Yup – it’s true. Target and Facebook have teamed up to let YOU, dear Facebook user, help determine how much of a possible $1 Million The Salvation Army will receive. Target has chosen 5 charities to split the money with – based on your votes.

How do you vote? It’s easy – you send Valentine’s Day and football themed cards to your friends! For Free! You can send up to 10 cards per day, and each card acts as 1 vote for the charity of your choice.

For more information, check out www.facebook.com/Target, or our story found by clicking here.

Gearing up for Radiothon!

December 3, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

I’m sure that, at some point, you’ve listened to a radiothon, or watched a telethon and seen the volunteers in the phone bank – the people answering the phones, taking down donor information, and thanking them for their generous contributions. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be one of those volunteers?

If you’re over the age of 18, and if you can find some time to spare sometime between 6am on Friday, December 11th and 1pm on Sunday, December 13th – this may be the volunteer opportunity for you!

Sign up as a Volunteer to view the shifts that are still open, and to sign up for a slot! If you’re already signed up as a volunteer, login at www.myvolunteerpage.com, send me an email, or give me a call. (This also works if you’re not already signed up as a volunteer!)

Imagine it – right downtown, smack dab in the middle of the city – Monument Circle – protected from the cold by the walls of the Emmis Communications building – knowing that your gift of time is playing a large part in ensuring the survival of community programs that feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and provide for the needy…

What A Need…

November 4, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

Thank You to all the volunteers who helped last night with conducting Christmas Assistance interviews. We had 150% more people apply for Assistance last night (the first night of accepting applications) than who applied on the first night last year. We have a big job ahead of us if this trend continues.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Volunteer to take Christmas Applications (must be 18+ and go through a brief training session)
  • Conduct a Toy Drive at your work or church
  • Drop off a toy at and Central Indiana Dunkin’ Doughnuts location
  • Bring a toy to the Christmas Gift and Hobby Show at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday, November 12th
  • Shop online with The Salvation Army and JCPenney’s Largest Online Angel Tree Giving Program
  • Volunteer to help with Toy Shop Set-Up (December 15-16) or with Toy Shop Distribution (December 17)

Of course, this list is just an example of what you could do to help. There are countless other ways that you can use your time and/or money to help those less fortunate this Holiday Season. If you need help finding something you can do, please give me a call! I’d be more than happy to find a good fit for you in The Salvation Army.

Looking for Something to Listen to?

October 21, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

Sometimes we all have those days where we just don’t feel like reading and sifting through page after page of information that we may or may not really want to know…

To solve that problem – I offer you this: Check out our latest Red Shield Radio show, available on podcast. What will you learn? Jason Wetzel, representing Walmart, tells all kinds of fun facts about candy (perfect for the upcoming Halloween holiday – dazzle your friends with these fascinating tidbits of information!), and about why Walmart has chosen to hold such a strong partnership with The Salvation Army over the years.

Check it out here.

And remember to bookmark the page – every week a new show is up!
