THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Coats for Kids – whether you gave your time, your money, or your childrens’ old coats. When the doors opened for Distribution at 8am on Saturday morning, we were faced with the longest line in the 23 year history of the event.
However – our volunteers were dedicated and our coat supply was almost adequate… 4,629 children received coats on Saturday.
4,629.
Amazing. Thank you.
You can check out a video clip from WTHR that recaps the event - complete with Bob Gregory himself by heading to www.salvationarmyindiana.org and clicking on the video!

Coats for Kids Update…
October 8, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment
Thank you all for your interest in helping to distribute coats on Saturday for Coats for Kids! All of our volunteer opportunities for Saturday have been filled, but please keep your eyes open for upcoming events needing volunteers. We have officially entered our busy season and will be in need of more volunteers for events like Radiothon and Toy Shop – and we can always use bellringers this November and December!
If you have a new coat to donate to Coats for Kids, you may bring it to us at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in the Northwest Pavilion through Friday (we’ll be there Noon – 8pm on Thursday, and 9am – 4:30pm on Friday), or you can drop it off at The Salvation Army located at 3100 N. Meridian St. between 8am – 4pm on Thursday or Friday.
Thank you again and I look forward to working with you this season!

Another Chance to Donate Coats…
October 2, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment
First off – THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who came out yesterday to help make Apple Fest 2009 a huge success! Thank you, also, to those of you who came out to enjoy Applebee’s food, warm apple cobbler, to hear the sounds of Bandwagon and to donate a coat to a child in need. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
However, if you found yourself unable to attend Apple Fest, there are still a few ways you can donate a coat to Coats for Kids. Any Tuchman Cleaners location in the Indianapolis area will gladly take your new or gently used childrens coat and make sure it gets into our hands before Distribution Day on October 10th.
Or – if you’re a Colts fan and will be attending the game at Lucas Oil Stadium this coming Sunday, October 4th – look for us! We’ll be collecting coats outside the Stadium, as well as monetary donations – all going towards purchasing coats for children in need.
Thank you for your support and hopefully we’ll see you Sunday!

Take a Bite out of Homelessness!

The time is almost here…
That’s right – Apple Fest is this coming Thursday, October 1st! We’ll be on Monument Circle (you really can’t miss us) from 10:30am – 1:30pm serving up Applebee’s food, warm apple cobbler and cold ice cream – all while Bandwagon sets the tone of the lunch hour with their live music!
The weather looks like it will be beautiful, and all proceeds will go to our Homelessness Bites Campaign so you don’t even have to feel guilty about “eating out”!
Tell you what… if you bring a new or gently used children’s coat for the Bob Gregory Coats for Kids Drive, we’ll even give you a free apple cobbler. Yes – Free. You really can’t beat free.
See you Thursday on the Circle…

Coats for Kids – Set-Up Help Needed!

“It just feels like, through our little projects and visits, we are being the hands and feet of God.” ~ Women From Faith (Newsletter)
Hello! First of all – thank you so much for being so interested in helping with Coats for Kids! I’ve had a lot of people sign up recently to help with the event (and could still use a few more) so really, Thank You.
It seems, however, that most people want to help with the Distribution Day. This absolutely makes sense – walk around with a family, help them pick out a coat for their child – not to mention it is on a Saturday.
But see, there can be no Distribution if there is no Set-Up. This year we’ve added evening shifts for those of you who work during the day but still want to help! Besides, Set-Up is a blast! We have music playing, a great group of volunteers, food… you really can’t go wrong.
Here are the shifts: Read more
