The Salvation Army had the pleasure, this week, of hosting a Victory Dinner to honor our “Army of Champions” from the 2009 Christmas season. One of our categories just so happened to be “Youth Champion” and Jake Iery just so happened to have made an impression on us.
Jake, a student at Zionsville Middle School and a member of the National Junior Honor Society, organized a community toy drive to help children in need. Jake made flyers to raise awareness about the need and then, with a little help from dad, he traveled through his neighborhood to collect 180 toys for the toy drive! Thanks to Jake’s hard work and community organizing skills, many underprivileged children had toys to unwrap and smiles on their faces on Christmas morning.
