And this is how it all begins…
August 1, 2007 by Elizabeth
Welcome to my brand new blog! As the majority of you now know, my name is Elizabeth Wilhelm and I am the new Volunteer Coordinator for The Salvation Army!
My goal for this blog is to entertain you, provide you with information about upcoming events and volunteer information, present you with thought-provoking information, allow you the chance to be heard, and to give you a glimpse in to my life and my thoughts on… well… anything.
With that said, let’s move on. I could – if I was so inclined – begin to introduce myself by means of the standard information (where do I live, where was I born, you know the drill) OR I could tell you a few random facts about myself. Call me crazy, but I think you can learn more about a person by the random facts than you ever can by knowing how old he/she is or what his/her major was in college.
(Deep breath and exhale…) Here it goes.
- I’d love to go to Alaska someday
- I have a fascination with tigers
- If I could play any sport professionally, it’d be basketball
- I dislike boats, well, being in them – they’re fun to look at…
- Orange is my favorite color
- I’m a vegetarian because I feel bad for the animals and can’t bring myself to eat them
- In my spare time I write stories, song lyrics and music to accompany my lyrics
- I’m terrified of spiders
- I have a pet spider named Creeps
Yes, you read the last two items on that list absolutely correct. And we’re not talking about thinking, “Eww, that spider’s scary looking.” We’re talking about full on freeze from fear when seeing a spider (the big ones at least, smaller ones I can get rid of!). And my pet spider? Creeps lives in my bedroom – on my windowsill right beside my desk. Go figure.
I’ve been with The Salvation Army for just about one month now and I’m starting to figure out just what my job is here. I’ll tell you what – I haven’t had the opportunity to meet very many of you yet, but those of you who I have met whether through email, phone, or in person, are fantastic! I couldn’t ask for a better group of volunteers, or a better job! We really are part of something great and I am happy to be working with each one of you.
Well, I think that’s enough for now. If any of you happen to be awake and looking for something to do at 5:00am this coming Sunday morning (August 5th), tune in to WIBC and hear me join Jeff Stanger, Justin Bessler and Mike Rowland, the hosts of Red Shield Radio, as their guest! Or, if you’re like me and are not awake at that time, hop over to www.salvationarmyindiana.org/redshieldradio or iTunes and download the broadcast sometime after it airs.
As is my policy, I welcome any questions/comments/concerns/funny stories. Feel free to comment on this blog (I encourage it!) I’ll read all comments and try my best to respond, if it calls for a response. It’s easy to leave a comment, just click on “comments” under the post, fill out the information and write your thoughts!
Thanks for reading! I hope to hear from you…
