Back To School… Gets Expensive!

July 29, 2010 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

A deserving child receives a colorful new pair of shoes to start Back To School season off on the right foot!

I have to admit it – when I was the age of this little girl, I would have picked those shoes too! And, thanks to a generous donor, Mrs. Laura Lewis, this child can return to school in style!

Back-to-School gets expensive and the nearly 120 children who participated in the 4th annual Shoe Shopping trip received not only a new pair of shoes, but also a backpack full of supplies.

There’s still time to help – hundreds, if not thousands, of children are still in need and can’t afford to start school with the supplies necessary to succeed. Any donations you have – a pair of scissors, a notebook, new shoes, socks, or outfits, backpacks, calculators - the list is endless – these children need!

Please look here for a list of Salvation Army Corps close to you. Any of these Community Centers will accept your donations and make sure they get to children in need.

Thank you!

Karma…

Karma is a great dog... but I could use a little help!

Ok, so generally this space is reserved for Salvation Army related events and opportunities, but today… well, today is just different.

See, I adopted this amazing dog from the Humane Society a couple months back (under the guise that she was quite a bit older than I came to find out she really is) and she’s a lot of fun – an incredibly smart, sweet, mischievous Lab/Terrier Mix.

However, since’s she’s actually just around 1 year old, she has a few puppy-problems.

Such as barking at people when she’s on a leash.

Don’t get me wrong, little Karma isn’t a terror or an unfriendly dog, quite the opposite, but when she is on a leash, I think she feels a little defenseless and therefore barks and carrys-on. Off a leash, she’s the sweetest dog ever.

I’ve run out of ideas on how to get this behavior to stop so if you or someone close to you has had the same problem and can offer up some advice… I’ll try anything!!!

Thank you!
