Keep your eyes peeled and you’ll find that The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) volunteers are out and about in Indianapolis!
For the next few weeks, EDS trained volunteers will be wearing bright red Salvation Army shirts around Indy as a visual reminder of the work we are doing. Feel free to say hi or ask questions if you have any.
If you’re interested in becoming an EDS trained volunteer, send me an email. I’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on any future classes we hold!

Haiti Relief Efforts Continue…

For an update on the conditions in Haiti and how The Salvation Army is helping, check out this letter written by Captain Marcos Ramirez, who is in Haiti serving those in need.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services Volunteer, we will be holding a training course on Thursday, January 28th in Indianapolis. This course is required for all EDS volunteers – but DOES NOT guarantee that you will be sent to Haiti to help. It is, however, the first step in the process.
There is a $20.00 fee to cover course materials, lunch, and refreshments. Topics covered will include the history of Salvation Army Disaster Services, the role of Salvation Army Disaster Volunteer, the Incident Command System, and what to expect on the scene of a disaster.
The course will run from 8am-4:30pm and all volunteers must be 18+.
If you are interested in signing up, you may reach me at:
Elizabeth_Wilhelm@usc.salvationarmy.org
or by phone at (317) 224-1010.
Seating is limited and will be on a first come/first served basis.
Hope to see you there!

Haiti…
January 15, 2010 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment
Hello! I’ve received a lot of calls recently regarding the Emergency Diaster Relief efforts taking place in Haiti. For a quick update – check out this article, regarding The Salvation Army’s involvement thus far in Haiti.
As stated – our biggest need is for monetary support. Disasters of this magnitude take a lot of money to clean up, not to mention aftercare for those who lost everything. You can find ways to donate in the article.
Also – we will be sending Emergency Disaster Service Trained Volunteers to Haiti in the next week or so – but in order to do this, you must be a Trained Volunteer. If you are trained, and are interested in the possibility of deploying for 14 days to help in Haiti, have a current passport, have no medical problems or conditions, and are comfortable with incredibly primitive living conditions, let me know. I can’t promise deployment, but I can get your name in to the right hands.
Any material donations may be dropped off at the ARC (Adult Rehabilitation Center) located at 711 E. Washington St.
Thank you – your thoughts and prayers for the Haiti Survivors are invaluable and appreciated. We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on and how you can help The Salvation Army’s efforts.

Game Time!!!
January 4, 2010 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment
Now that the holiday season is over (Happy New Year!) you may find yourself with a little spare time. Imagine this, if you will – taking that spare time, playing a fun 60 second game, and knowing that you’re helping a great cause while you’re playing!
(Thank you Sonar Studios!)
If you wind up in the Top 10 of either game by January 15th, 2010, you’ll win a Starbucks giftcard. And while you play, you’re helping to ensure that The Salvation Army receives a generous donation from Sonar Studios.
