A Day At Eagle Creek…

August 31, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

“There’s always room for improvement – you know, it is the biggest room in the house.” ~Louise Heath Leber

I spent last Thursday over at our Eagle Creek Corps with a phenomenal group of volunteers from Target, and found myself doing a few odd jobs that I didn’t really expect to be doing between the hours of 8am-4pm.

Scraping some kind of gloppy glue off a wall, for example, painting a ceiling and wall, helping to lay floating laminate flooring…

But you know what? Soon, that space will be a library for the Eagle Creek community to use. There will be books, computers, research help, and kind people filling the room.

Not a bad way to spend a Thursday.

Going to see Creed this weekend?

“Live and work but do not forget to play, to have fun in life and really enjoy it.” ~Eileen Caddy

We’ll be there too. Keep your eyes (but mainly your ears) open for the sights and sounds of The Salvation Army! You’ll see volunteers standing by kettles, ringing bells, and collecting donations that will support our local efforts to give help to those in need in Indianapolis.

It doesn’t take much. We know that coins add up to a change in the community and your donations are needed now more than ever.

So, should you happen to be in attendence, see one of our kettles, and have something that you are able to give – know that if you choose to, it will be in good hands and will find its way to those who need it most.

Fall… Already???

August 24, 2009 by Elizabeth · Leave a Comment

“When the apple is ripe, it will fall.” ~Proverb

Temperature-wise, yesterday was starting to feel like Fall! Before you start to feel sad about Summer slowly wrapping up and Fall creeping in, just remember this – all that means is that The Salvation Army will be out in the community in full force delivering coats and toys to children, gifts to shut-ins, and raising the money necessary to support these important programs.

First up? Apple Fest! Apple Fest will take place on October 1st down on Monument Circle. As part of our Homelessness Bites campaign, you can find more information about it here:

Hope to see you there!

Patience…

“Patience is not passive; on the contrary, it is active; it is concentrated strength.” ~Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton

Patience is concentrated strength… I like that idea. Patience has been playing a large part in my life these days and I’m starting to believe that a lack of it will cost me a great deal of money.

I’m sure you can understand – car shopping. Whew. You know that feeling when you find the perfect car, but the dealer doesn’t come down low enough so you walk away? Then you hope he calls…

And of course, you can’t call because then he won’t come down as much. Ah, the games we play for a vehicle.

I’m sure patience will pay off. I just wish it would hurry up and do so.
