Happy Leap Day!

“Promises are the uniquely human way of ordering the future.” ~Hannah Arendt
Happy Leap Day! Well, with this day nearly over, I’d like to take a moment to prepare you for March. It’s going to be an interesting month – just take a look at what causes have adopted March as their National Month:
- Irish American Month
- Music in Our Schools Month
- National Craft Month
- National Nutrition Month
- National Peanut Month
- National Women’s History Month
- Poetry Month
- Social Worker’s Month
I was looking through the ads today and a large department store had an ad saying they were celebrating Frozen Food Month all month long. They had coupons and low prices… Turns out March is also National Frozen Food Month. Maybe there is something to knowing what the National months are!

“The way a man plays a game shows some of his character. The way he loses shows all of it.” ~Unknown
Come join staff and other volunteers on Thursday, March 6th for a night of BINGO and fellowship! It will begin at 6pm and generally lasts about 2-2.5 hours. We’ll have refreshments, prizes for each round of Bingo and even a silent auction!
If you’re interested in attending, please send me an email or call me at (317) 224-1010 and let me know! I’d love to see you there.

New Look…

“What appears to be the end may really be a new beginning.” ~Unknown
Do you like it? I really like the new blue color and the picture of the volunteers! But more has changed than just the look of the page. Check out the “Subscribe” button.
<— It’s over there.
The Salvation Army volunteers have been challenged. It seems that the Red Shield Radio blog currently has 12 subscribers. We’ve been challenged to beat their numbers.
So what does “Subscribe” entail? Well, it means that you’ll be updated when this page is updated. Just click on the link and you’ll have the choice to put a newsfeed on to your Yahoo, Google, and/or AOL page, just to name a few. That’ll make a box with links to the latest blog posts in it. No more wondering when it’s updated! No more having to remember the page – it’ll be right on the websites you use already!
I definitely think The Salvation Army volunteers group can have more subscribers to this blog that Red Shield Radio has to theirs. Go ahead, try it out. It doesn’t ask for your name or any personal information. What do you have to lose?

“A guest never forgets the host who had treated him kindly.” ~Homer
That’s right folks – another extraordinary post from a Salvation Army volunteer who goes by the name Ray. This is actually taken from a blog he wrote, but I liked it so much, and it’s relevant, that I figured I’d pass it along to you.
With out further adieu, I present to you – the writing of Ray: Read more
Art and Celebrations…

“It took my 40 years to find out that painting is not sculpture.” ~Paul Cezanne
It’s Monday again and I hope you all had a great weekend! I found myself down at the Indiana State Museum on Saturday for an art show featuring local Indiana artists. Every kind of art was being displayed for sale – paintings, photography, metal work, jewelery, ceramics, and so on. I even entered a contest to win a Mini Cooper (for a weekend). There are some pretty cool things that go on in this town of ours.
And on to the main event:
- Monday, February 25th – Pistol Patent Day
- Tuesday, February 26th – Tell a Fairytale Day
- Wednesday, February 27th – Polar Bear Day
- Thursday, February 28th – National Tooth Fairy Day
- Friday, February 29th – Leap Day
- Saturday, March 1st – National Pig Day
- Sunday, March 2nd – Old Stuff Day
As I write these, my roomate and I are figuring out how the dog, Baxter, could participate in these festivities. It’s always good to include others in your celebrations. Got a good story? Tell us about it!
