Sky Concert!!!

The Salvation Army has a huge opportunity sitting in front of us, but we need volunteers to help!
Sky Concert 2008 put on by Hank FM has named The Salvation Army as the beneficiary! (Sky Concert is an outdoor fireworks show choreographed to music that will take place on August 30th at the White River State Park).
Here’s where you come in. We need 200 volunteers to help with various volunteer opportunities on August 30th such as roaming bellringers (using the buddy system!), stationary kettles, and being part of a phone bank. Basically, we’re asking you to come out to White River State Park, hang out in the crowd, watch the concert, and help us raise all the money we can to fund our local community programs!
If you’re interested in more information, just let me know. This is a fantastic opportunity for churches, families, co-workers or any other kind of group you’re part of!

Red Shield Rally!!!

It’s coming. A brand new Salvation Army event. And soon.
Join us on Saturday, July 12th from 10am-2pm at Track Attack (located at 2525 N. Shadeland Ave) for a day of family racing fun!
- For the adults - take a chance and enter a go-karting race! Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, give the spec cars a lap or two around the track.
- For the kids - play with RIDEMAKERZ RC cars, jump around for a bit in the bounce house, get your face painted and more!
Red Shield Rally is part of our Homelessness Bites campaign (more info at www.HomelessnessBites.org) and the proceeds support the Social Services programs provided by The Salvation Army that help the homeless get back on their feet.
A worthy cause? You bet. Fun for the family? Absolutely. Good weather? Should be.

Help us…

It’s not always glamorous to be a Salvation Army volunteer - even in the time of natural disasters. I’m sure the people who have been helping out tirelessly over the last few weeks will agree with me.
But your talents and your time are necessary for our community and our state to rebuild and repair itself. Even if it’s “just” answering our Emergency Disaster Help Line. Even if it’s “just” loading, unloading, stocking, and restocking food and water into a warehouse or a canteen. Even if it’s “just” passing out water or Gatorade to people who recently lost everything material in their lives.
We’re not on-scene for clean-up yet. The water is still too deep and the muck is still too unmanageable, but we’re out there. Yes - we are out there doing everything that we can, but we still need more people like yourself to help us.
Drop me a line, give me a call, do whatever it takes to tell me that you want to help. I’ll tell you how you can. I’ll tell you exactly what we’re doing and exactly what you can do. Just please, tell me you’re willing.

Tornado Victims and EDS…

This time last week everything was fine. Sure, they were calling for some bad weather - a few storms here and there - but that’s pretty typical for Indiana this time of year.
And now hundreds of families are relying on the kindness of strangers for food, water and a dry place to stay. They lost everything and now must begin to rebuild the life they had this time last week.
But you’re not helpless. You don’t have to just sit by and watch and wonder what will happen - you can actively help these victims. Find out how here.
And if you’ve heard what The Salvation Army has been doing to help out and would like to do the same, an Introduction to Emergency Disaster Services course is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th. This is a required course if you’d like to help out with Emergency Disaster Services and it’s not too late to sign up. Please send me and email for more information - regardless of whether you’ve been volunteering for us for decades, or if you’re just beginning in your volunteering endeavors. We’d love to hear from all of you.

Craft Show - Saturday!

Tomorrow you’re in for a treat.
Gorgeous weather (high of 81, sunny, a couple afternoon clouds), a Saturday, last day of May…
And a craft show/flea market! The Johnson County Corps is holding a craft show fundraiser tomorrow from 10am-5pm at their Corps (located at 325 Market Plaza, Greenwood, IN 46142).
Now, I know a lot of you miss seeing Crissy as often as you were used to, and that seeing her at the occassional event just isn’t cutting it - so let me tell you this - she’ll be at the craft show all day tomorrow! She’ll be selling Salvation Army t-shirts (”Homelessness Bites” and “Red Shield Rally”) at a booth and I’m pretty sure she’d love to see you.
But that’s not all - (like my use of the ever-so-popular infomercial tactic?) - the one and only Jeff Stanger (Development Director) will be in a booth right beside her selling books he’s written! If you see him, make sure you let him know that you know that he lost the Blog War. Read up on him here.
So basically, if you’re in the area, stop by and say hi! It’s a fantastic cause (as you well know) and it’ll be so nice outside, why not enjoy it???
